Housewarming with Plants

When my son and his wife first moved in to their new home, they were very excited; like most people! And, like most people, they had much of the furniture they needed, but had some blank spaces to fill when it came to décor. When I first came to visit, I wanted to gift them with something, but didn’t want to force my own idea of knickknacks, etc on them. However, I wasn’t above gifting them with several houseplants. And a few outdoor plants. Yeah, I’m a good mom.

Plants are relatively easy to maintain, look great in any room, and add so much life and interest! I have been a plant freak for decades, and I haven’t met too many others like me over the years, so I thought I was taking a bit of a chance with my housewarming gifts.

But after a couple of years, and many visits, I noticed a trend. More and more plants were showing up at their house. They told me they had made many trips to my favorite plant shop, and now it was their favorite, too. Very cool. I think my plant idea was beginning to grow on them.

I think the only downside is now I find myself wanting to give them advice on how to raise their brood of houseplants. They do have their own way of doing things, so I just give advice when asked….usually. There was one time, though, when they went out of town and wanted me to babysit their new plant that was not low maintenance. They dropped it off, and I was able to re-pot it, fuss over it and spoil it for a whole week. I think it grew an inch at my place.
