George Harrison’s Gorgeous Acoustic Version of a Dylan Song

In January of 1969, the Beatles began working on a new project that they hoped would result in a new album, a live show, a TV show and possibly a movie.

We all know that on January 10th, George Harrison temporarily left the Beatles during these Get Back Sessions. He left for many reasons, one of them possibly due to an unhappy situation at home.

His wife, Pattie, had walked out on George before the sessions began, due to his infidelity. By January 9th, George was truly missing her, and in a mood. He had just written For You Blue and was demo-ing it for the group on his acoustic guitar. He then sang and played his song, Ramblin’ Woman, followed by Bob Dylan’s I Threw It All Away.

He then began singing another Dylan song, Mama You’ve Been On My Mind. All these songs are beautifully sung and played, but there’s something special about this one.

I created a video to accompany George’s emotional performance of Mama You’ve Been On My Mind that day in January 1969.
