Green Makes Everything Better

Green. What a great color. Just saying it out loud makes you smile. Green naturally makes you think of all things alive and growing. And that is pretty much what green is all about: Life.

I enjoy taking walks in nature, so I get to experience a lot of Green. Green is a soft carpet of grass, making it easy for you to walk around barefoot. Green wants you to relax and breathe. Ever smelled a fresh-cut lawn? Did it make you feel more alive and fresh and happy? Maybe even younger? That smell is Green!

Green wants to be your gentle, accommodating forever friend. Leaves on trees and bushes are usually Green; a more active, chatty and lively Green! These Greens are in different shapes and sizes. They provide shade and shelter; a place to rest or hide. Green can create its own comfortable world, inviting you to stay awhile. Maybe lay down and rest and look at the clouds. Green wants you to be protected, safe and happy.

Green is a Granny Smith apple. Green is alfalfa sprouts and avocados. Green is cucumbers and celery. How about peppers and parsley? Green really wants you to be well-fed, healthy and beautiful! It is happy to provide you with many options. It is so flexible and resourceful. It just wants what is best for you.

Green is such a great color that many animals, like some turtles, snakes and birds, choose to be Green. These animals want to be as close to nature as possible. They want to blend in so they can stay healthy and alive. They trust Green to keep them safe. Green has their back.

It is therefore very easy to decorate with Green. To my mind, it can be used like a neutral, similar to Brown or Gray. Green can be such a calming, restful color, that it’s a natural for a bedroom or family room. Even the living room. Okay, the bathroom works, too. I once even painted my kitchen Green!

When you pair Green with Black, Green becomes even more comfortable. It cozies up to Black, appearing more neutral, more inviting. In return, Black seems to relax, too. It becomes quieter, maybe even cozier. Green highlights all of Black’s warmth and depth. If you listen, you can hear Black and Green quietly discussing the latest book they both read. Most likely one about organic gardening in the city.

Gray really likes Green. It likes it so much that sometimes it soaks up some of Green’s warmth and life, creating a more tranquil space to gather. Depending on the shade of Green next to Gray, you may be inspired to cook a fresh meal, entertain a close friend over a cup of tea, relax in a chair while dreamily looking out the window before falling asleep, or type up your latest insights or musings on your favorite hobby.

Green and Blue are brothers. That means they don’t really have to say anything to each other when sitting together. They can simply enjoy each other’s beautiful company. They bring out the very best in each other. Blue becomes deeper, more interesting, more saturated next to Green. Sometimes crisper or fresher. Green just sits there admiring his strong, fascinating brother, often emulating him. Green seems to exude more life and energy next to Blue. Often more power and more depth. Blue makes Green feel more at home, more evergreen and more inspired.

The color Purple has so many facets! It is truly a magical color. You would think that Purple and Green don’t make sense together, but they really are wonderful friends! They tend to shimmer next to each other. Purple, whether it is lilac or deep violet, becomes even more magical and interesting when Green is its partner. Green is fascinated by Purple. It relaxes and enjoys all the secrets Purple wants to share. Green is the best, and holds onto those secrets forever. It becomes more serene and a little magical itself. Purple continues being mysterious, ethereal and rich, but it just makes more sense next to Green.

Wherever Red goes, it is always going to receive attention. Deservedly so. It has so much energy to share, so many amazing stories of all the fabulous places it’s been, and all the places it expects to go! Why would Green want to dampen those good vibrations? Green just shifts into neutral, all-about-you mode, reflecting Red back to itself. Red just loves that, and becomes even more wonderful, smiling and sharing its bounty with everyone.

Yellow is smart enough to know all the good Green has to offer. It almost always wants Green nearby. They are truly longtime best friends with much in common. They are both full of life and energy. Sometimes they just want to run and skip all day, but usually they are happy to meander around the house. They can shine light in dark corners, bring lively energy to boring spaces, and make a 200-year-old house seem newly-built. Their warmth and good nature draws everyone to them. You feel better when Yellow and Green are there. They enjoy being everyone’s friend.

You gotta love bouncy Orange. I know I do. Orange is Yellow’s fun-loving cousin who has a lot of sunshine and warmth to offer, too, but is more playful! Green has a little crush on Orange. It doesn’t always know quite what to do with itself when Orange is around. But Orange smiles and blesses Green with new life and energy, causing Green to smile and sigh. Green makes itself more welcoming, more charming as it tries to get Orange to stay. Orange is happy to stay and becomes less bouncy yet more luscious next to Green. It loves listening to tales of woods and streams and long days and moonlit nights. It truly admires the unassuming wisdom and charisma of Green. It glows when Green is around. Green promises Orange he will always be there. A charming, happy pair that attracts attention everywhere they go.

House plants are usually Green. Houseplants can fit with just about any decor. They are Green, and they are neutrals! It’s okay to use a lot of plants in decorating. For me, it is mandatory.

Green loves you, and you should love it back.
